Introduction

Before we getting advance lets understand 2 basic tern and what excatly this term meaning....:-)



Meanings of the following terms

Project
o   Project can be defined as a specific and finite task to be accomplished.
o   A project can be defined as project if it has characteristics like has a unique attitude, temporarily basis, has a project elaboration, has cost involved, time frame and must have project manager and project owner.
o   When all the characteristics have fulfilled, then the task can be defined as a project.
o   The examples of project are SMART Tunnel project, KLCC, Formula 1 and etc.
o   If any task that run continuity or everyday, it cannot be defined as project but it is operational. For example task of joining parts of car’s component of a company like PROTON.
o   In a simple meaning, projects are characterized by a singleness of purpose, a definite life cycle, complex inter dependencies, some or all unique elements and environment of conflict.

Project Management
o   Project management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools and technique to project activities.
o   Project activities included initiation, planning, executing, controlling and closing.
o   In other words, project management is the management activities of planning, directing and controlling resources (people, equipment, material) to meet the technical, cost and time constraints of a project.
o   Project management includes developing a project plan, which includes defining and confirming the project goals and objectives, identifying tasks and how goals will be achieved, quantifying the resources needed, and determining budgets and timelines for completion.

Project Development: New LCCT (Low Cost Carrier Terminal) or KLIA 2

Scope of Project:
1)      A world largest LCCT Terminal
2)      Must 60 percent larger than the original size of LCCT (150,000 square meters to 242,000 square meters).
3)      Build a pedestrian bridge (pedestrian Sky bridge) Asia's first and third in the world
4)      KLIA2 will have its own track
5)      Must provide a parking area of 6.000 vehicle
6)      Must provides for the needs of departure and arrival hall for international and domestic passengers separately
7)      To accommodate more than 15 million passengers per day

Time length: 20 month expected finish April 2012

Cost: RM2 billion

Quality:  1) Need 68 doors for handling 30 million passengers a year compared to industry standard 55    door

Constraint:
·         The use of aerobridge facilities and ground transportation facilities in on doubt between MAHB and Air ASIA
·         Increased costs due to delays in construction with some changes in design for increased safety and the construction of a platform
·         If the construction costs may increase and this may increase fee and it will affect consumers AirAsia. Therefore, Air Asia will continue to maintain low prices because it said the airline would not exist if the price offered is not economically

PROJEK MENARA BERKEMBAR PETRONAS KLCC


SCOPE:
·         Terdapat dua menara, Menara 1 dan Menara 2
·         Menara Berkembar PETRONAS dibina diatas tapak seluas 40 hektar di kawasan Segi tiga emas Kuala Lumpur.
·         Terdapat sebatang jejantas udara yang menyambungkan kedua-dua menara di tingkat 41 dan 42, iaitu jejantas dua tingkat tertinggi di dunia. Jambatan ini terletak 170 meters (558 ka) dari paras tanah dan panjangnya 58 meters (190 ka), dan beratnya 750 tans (750,000 kg)
·         Menara setinggi 88 tingkat ini banyak dibuat daripada konkrit bertetulang dengan muka bangunan buatan keluli dan kaca yang direka untuk menyerupai motif kesenian Islam untuk mencerminkan agama Islam di Malaysia.
·         Satu lagi pengaruh seni Islam dalam bangunan ini ialah keratan rentas kedua-dua menara yang berbentuk Rub el Hizb, ditambah dengan bahagian bundar untuk memenuhi keperluan ruang pejabat.
·         Menyediakan ruang pejabat tanpa tiang seluas 560,000 meter persegis.
·         Menyiapkan keluasan setiap tingkat 395,000 m²(4,252,000 sq ft)(Menara 1 & 2)
·         Menyediakan bilangan lif sebanyak 78 (Menara 1& 2)

COST:
·         AS$ 1.6 bilion

TIME:
·         Mula 1992 dan Siap pada Mac 1998, tempoh pembinaan selama tujuh tahun.


QUALITY:
·         Bangunan buatan keluli dan kaca.
·         Menara kaca dan keluli tahan karat setinggi 88-tingkat, merupakan imbasan warisan Muslim Malaysia
·         Keluasan setiap tingkat kedua-dua menara perlu 395,000 m².
·         Menggunakan campuran konkrit yang dibenarkan pada lantai  setiap tingkat,
·         Menara ini mempunyai ciri-ciri keselamatan yang unik dan pertama kali digunakan di Malaysia. Sewaktu berlaku gempa bumi atau puting beliung, menara ini akan condong. Kecondongannya mengikut tiupan angin kencang hingga 1.5 meter. Apabila bencana reda, menara akan tegak seperti biasa.

CONSTRAINT:
·         Disebabkan kekurangan keluli serta kos pengimportan keluli yang mahal, menara berkembar ini didirikan atas konkrit bertetulang teramat kukuh bereka bentuk radikal yang murah sekali.[Konkrit yang amat kukuh dikenali ramai kontraktor Asia dan dua kali lebih berkesan mengurangkan gegaran berbanding keluli; oleh itu bangunan ini dua kali beratnya pada tapak berbanding bangunan keluli yang seumpamanya

·         Ujian tanah mendapati tapak pembinaan menara itu mengandungi jenis tanah yang digelar Kenny Hill, dengan lapisan batu kapur beberapa meter di bawahnya. Jika pembinaan diteruskan di tapak asal, menara itu akan menyendeng dalam tempoh beberapa tahun.pemaju memutuskan untuk memindahkan tapak menara 60 meter ke tenggara yang dikenal pasti lebih sesuai dan selamat. Proses mewujudkan asas menara pula bermula tidak lama selepas itu, dengan pelaksanaan kerja tanah yang membabitkan penggalian 20 meter pada tapak seluas 16 hektar. Jumlah tanah yang diangkut amat besar sekali, membabitkan hampir 500 buah lori setiap malam.
